Table Wine Review: 2014 Hess Select Cabernet Sauvignon

2014 Hess Select Cabernet Sauvignon

Price: $15.99-18.99

The Basics: Nose is off putting, some blend of charcoal and dirty socks.   Palate is extremely boring without flavor.  Medium plus tannin, medium plus acidity.  Finish is non-exsitient

Rating: 70 points

My take: I cannot recommend this wine given the alternatives in this price point.

Bottom line: I actually tasted two different bottles from two different stores just to be fair, both were terrible.  You can find wine ten dollars cheaper that is more exciting and drinkable.  This is quite a shock given the Hess brand name and location of the wineyard.  Maybe it was just a bad year.

I agree! I think their quality has taken a dive in last 7 years. There was a time, way back when, when they were making great stuff. Maybe they just got too big?
